Created by Mike McMahan, Star Trek: Lower Decks is an American adult animated television series. It is the ninth Star Trek series and was launched in 2020 as part of executive producer Alex Kurtzman’s expanded Star Trek Universe. Lower Decks is the franchise’s first animated series since the 1970s series Star Trek: The Animated Series, and its first comedic series. The executive producers of the show include McMahan along with Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Katie Krentz.

Star Trek: Lower Decks premiered on CBS All Access on August 6, 2020, The series has received mixed reviews from critics, as well as several accolades including a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award nomination. A second season was released on Paramount+ from August to October 2021. A third season is released this year and a fourth season was ordered in January 2022, which is expected to be released soon.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 4 Plot

Star Trek: Lower Decks was renewed for a fourth season in 2022, which was before the premiere of Season 3. Since Season 3 has not premiered yet, we cannot say anything about what would happen in Season 4. However, it will continue from where the third season ends.

The show is set in the late 24th century in the Star Trek universe, in which Earth is part of the multi-species United Federation of Planets. The Federation’s military and exploration division, Starfleet, operates a fleet of starships that travel the galaxy establishing contact with alien races; Lower Decks focuses on one of Starfleet’s least important starships, the USS Cerritos.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 4 Release Date And Cast

The third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is confirmed to premiere in the third quarter of 2022. Apart from that, the makers have confirmed that the fourth season would premiere in 2023, although a specific date is yet to be announced. The upcoming season should consist of 10 episodes like the first three seasons and the rest of the details shall be confirmed soon. The series is followed by Star Trek: Prodigy.

Unlike previous Star Trek series, whose principal characters are typically starship captains or other senior officers, Lower Decks focuses on the missions and adventures of the “lower deckers”, low-ranking officers with menial jobs, while the captain and other senior staff appear as supporting characters. The expected cast members for the upcoming season include Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, Eugene Cordero, Dawnn Lewis, Jerry O’Connell, and Gillian Vigman.
