British Utopia gave birth to a new American version of the TV series which is scheduled to premiere on September 25, 2020, on Prime Video. The adaptation has been done by the American writer Gillian Flynn. Utopia has been produced by Huey M. Park, Robin Sweet, and executive produced by Gillian Flynn, Jessica Rhoades, Dennis Kelly, Karen Wilson, Diederick Santer, Sharon Hall, and Robin Sweet. Opinions have been circulating widely like forest fires regarding the remake, and the audience is not yet ready to accept the new one. But time will only tell whether the American series is successful or not. The remake had been in talks since 2018 (the first season is going to consist of 9 episodes). Initially, the series was in the hands of HBO with David Fincher to direct but was given to Amazon for some financial disputes. On July 23, 2020, during the San Diego Comic-Con@Home, the first teaser for the series was released. On August 6, 2020, at the TCA virtual panel, showrunner Gillian Flynn announced that there will be less violent than the British original.
The official description of Utopia on Prime Video goes like this, “Utopia is a conspiracy thriller that follows a group of young fans who come together when they discover that the conspiracy in an elusive comic, Utopia, is real. The comic foretells the demise of humanity and the world as we know it, thrusting this group of underdogs to embark on a high-stacks twisted adventure to use what they uncover to save themselves, each other, and ultimately humanity.” Their world is ripe with panic, stratagem, and pandemic. And the answer to every problem out there is their comic book.
Utopian is going to feature Sasha Lane as Jessica, Rainn Wilson as Michael, Dan Byrd as Ian, Javon Walton as Grant, Cory Michael Smith as Thomas, Ashleigh LaThrop as Becky, Desmin Borges as Wilson, Farrah Mackenzie as Alice, Christopher Denham as Arby, John Cusack as Dr. Kevin Christie, and Jeanine Serralles as Colleen.
