The whole world has become like a slow-motion video. Everything has come to a standstill. People are either sick or dying. Life has turned all black and white, a juxtaposition of anger, frustration, anxiety, sadness, and fear. Yet we are trying our best to keep ourselves sane amid the insane, keeping us busy with different activities; just a mere source of distraction from reality. But let’s take a moment and thank the online streaming platforms to keep us entertained and make the quarantine less boring. We can literally “Netflix & Chill”. Netflix is doing a great job with the new releases when the entire entertainment industry has suffered severely. And just like that, the OTT platform is coming up with the comic-adapted series Warrior Nun with the first season coming on 2 July 2020, inspired by the comic Warrior Nun Areala (1994) by Ben Dunn.
PLOT
The fantasy drama is created by Simon Barry, known for Ghost Wars, Bad Blood, etc, and produced by Terri Hughes Burton, Simon Barry, and Stephen Hegyes. According to Netflix, the story revolves around an orphaned teen who discovers after waking up in a morgue that she suddenly possesses superpowers as the chosen Halo-Bearer for a secret sect of demon-hunting nuns, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.
PRODUCTION
Uncanny that all the episodes have Biblical names, like Psalms 46:5, Ephesians 4:22-24, Isaiah 30:20-21, etc. Back in 2018, it was already announced about the coming of the series on Netflix and the filming for the first season took place in Ronda, Malaga, Antequera, and Seville, Spain from March 11, 2019, to July 5, 2019.
CASTS
The casting is delicate and subtle with the best. Alba Baptista plays Ava, Tristan Ulloa as Father Vincent, Toya Turner as Shotgun Mary, Sylvia De Fanti as Mother Superion, Lorena Andrea as Sister Lilith, Thekla Reuten as Jillian Salvius, Joaquim de Almeida as Cardinal Duretti and many more.
