What is the Future of Gaming? Complete Guide

Published

on

Since the early 2000s, gaming has continued to evolve at an incredibly fast pace.

Now, in 2022, the future is looking brighter than ever for all kinds of gaming fans, including PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X, and PC users.

So, what exactly is the future of gaming? Is it fair to expect Virtual Reality (VR) headsets to take over? Are battle royale games going to remain popular? Will Sony continue to outsell Microsoft?

Let’s examine this in detail.

Online Gambling is Going to Become More Popular

Over recent years, online casino games have become a new crowd favorite.

The reason why millions of people have taken to online casinos is that they provide a fun and engaging platform for online gambling.

The involvement of real money adds an extra edge of excitement that PlayStation and XBOX games simply don’t have. This attraction point is expected to influence the industry over the coming years and will likely lead to online gambling becoming even more popular.

VR Headsets Will Become the Industry Norm

VR headsets are slowly taking over the mainstream, despite their big price tags.

By 2030, VR headsets will likely be a feature across most US households. Instead of grabbing controllers to play video games, people will be grabbing their VR headsets instead.

And with the introduction of Mark Zuckerberg’s ‘Metaverse’, you can even expect people to be playing virtual reality games through Facebook as well. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens!

Battle Royale Games Will Continue to Dominate

Back in 2018, Fortnite changed the gaming world forever.

Since then, developers have latched onto the battle royale trend by releasing their own Fortnite-inspired battle royale games.

A great example of this is Call of Duty: Warzone (2020), which was the COD franchise’s first-ever battle royale game. Without Fortnite, it would never have been created.

Currently, Fortnite has over 350 million players, while PUBG Mobile (another popular battle royale game) has over 600 million players. Make no doubt about it, the battle royale genre is here to stay!

It’s Possible That the XBOX Series X will Surpass the PlayStation 5 in Sales

Since being released, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the XBOX Series X/S in total sales.

However, current sale trajectories indicate that this could possibly change soon.

In April 2022, the XBOX Series X/S outsold the PS5 in a single month for the first time ever. If Microsoft continues to up its game, it’s entirely possible that the new-generation XBOX console will become as popular as it was originally intended to be.

Party Chats Will Be Supervised and Monitored More Often

Prior to the release of the PlayStation 5, Sony announced that they would be monitoring and recording party chats moving forward in order to better protect online players. This move has seemingly worked well, as there are now much fewer reports of online abuse across Sony’s networks.

In the future, it’s a certainty that party chats will continue to be supervised in order to discourage players from abusing their friends and other randomers they play with from around the world.
