Code Hero

Designed by Alex Peake, Code Hero is a planned educational video game by Primer Labs and is supposed to teach players how to write programming languages by having them do so in a 3D world. The game was involved in some controversy after the Kickstarter campaign but the studio’s financial condition was affected and the deadlines for release were also delayed. A few financiers also threatened to sue the company as they remained silent for a long time. The game’s website also remained offline for a long time until 2014 and Peake refused to reveal anything so soon. The website remained inactive once again until it became active for the second time in 2016.

Are you curious to know the release date of this educational video game? What is the gameplay? Is there any trailer available? Continue reading to know everything about Code Hero.

Code Hero Gameplay

Code Hero

The basic intention of Code Hero was to let players interestingly know more about programming languages. Players get a gun that can copy any code and put it in other places on the level, leading to the creation of the entire program in a language like JavaScript and UnityScript along with moving into a 3D world. Players begin by joining the API of Gamebridge University from where they can make a selection of the levels and learn a lot about the basics of the programming languages. They then enter a new world called Humantheon from where the player can move throughout the rest of the game world.

Code Hero Release Date

Code Hero

The game’s development started many years ago in 2011 and a Kickstarter campaign began in 2012, aiming to accumulate funds worth $100,000 and help in the further development of the game in the next few months. The campaign ended with collections of $170,000 and the game’s website also collected funds worth $30,000. Peake then brought a development team and they started to work in a space at the IGN Indie Open House in 2012, which was located in San Francisco. The project was affected due to limited staff members and the studio’s financial condition was affected again. The developers failed to release the game by the original release date and the game’s social media pages and website remained silent for a long time. The financiers started to demand refunds and were worried that the funding might not have been done properly.

The original release date, which was scheduled sometime in 2012, was missed by the developers and a new update came out in a few days. The game’s supporter Dustin Deckard later tried to take legal action against the developers for not updating anything. Peake later revealed through a statement that the developers were still working on the game and they were committed to finishing the game as soon as possible. The funds that were raised helped in the game’s development and two alpha versions of the game were released by 2012 for those who opted for pre-orders. A beta version was released in 2013 and it was downloadable through the Primer Labs website. There was an official announcement regarding the downloadable version in 2014 and the company’s social media accounts went inactive from 2012. The website was relaunched in 2015 and went through some updates. The developers planned to release more updates every week and a new planned version was supposed to be released by the end of 2015.
