The main character, Half-Genie Shantae has to stop a pirate named Risky Boots who is planning something devastating for Sequin Land and his scheme might lead to more complicated situations.

In 2002, the game began development for the Game Boy Advance which was planned as the second game in the series, but was cancelled in 2004 due to WayForward being unable to find a publisher for it. However, after many years WayForward announced that development for the game had resumed in 2023.

The developers have also confirmed that Limited Run Games will be physically publishing the game for GBA in 2024. However, an exact official release date for the game is yet to be announced. This video game will be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows.
