Nickelodeon’s popular kids anime Avatar: The Last Airbender has been a hit on Netflix since its arrival on the platform on 15th May. It is uncommon for licensed shows to make it to the top lists, especially soon after their launch on the streamer. But Avatar: The Last Airbender secured the top spot on 19th May and until 22nd May it is still undefeated. It replaced Dead to Me for the number one position, which was on the top since the release of its second season on 8th May.
This much loved kids show had first premiered on Nickelodeon back in 2005 and had become an instant hit. The series had proved be an instant hit on Netflix US as well, which is great news as Netflix is also currently working on the live-action version of the show with the original creators in-charge. The live-action version is anticipated to roll out by 2022.
Despite its unprecedented rise in the United States, the show hasn’t managed make into the Netflix’s top charts of other English-speaking countries like UK, Netherlands, Spain and Germany, where Money Heist fame Alex Pina’s White Lines marks the top spot. White Lines is Netflix Original series and was also released on 15th May, same date as Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Last Dance, the docuseries circumscribing Michael Jordan and his team Chicago Bulls, is Netflix’s current number one in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
Anyways, securing US’s top place has got Netflix into considering to also launch ‘The Legend of Korra’, the spin-off series of Avatar: The Last Airbender, maybe at least in the US. The Legend of Korra takes a deep dive into the exploits of Korra, the next Avatar, 70 years after Aang’s battle against the Fire Lord and his devastating campaign of total world dominance. Netflix’s twitter handle for anime shows has already given a subtle green light to The Legend of Korra through the following tweet:
