Created by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Rhys Thomas, Documentary Now! is a mockumentary television series made for IFC. Armisen, Hader, Meyers and Thomas are also the executive producers alongside Lorne Michaels and Andrew Singer.

The first season of the series premiered on August 20, 2015 followed by the second season on September 14, 2016. The third season was released on February 20, 2019. It received positive reviews from critics and currently holds an approval rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series is soon coming back with its fourth season.

Documentary Now! Plot and Cast

As mentioned earlier, Documentary Now! is a mockumentary show and considering that, nothing should change for now. The series presents itself as a long-running news magazine for documentaries, initially celebrating its 50th season. Mirren appears at the beginning of each episode to introduce the “classic” documentary that the audience is about to see.

The idea for the series is derived from a pre-tape short film from Saturday Night Live where Armisen, Hader, Meyers were former cast members. All the three seasons have received critical acclaim and audiences are expecting more from the upcoming season.

Coming to the cast, Helen Mirren has been presenting the show since the first season and she is expected to come back in Season 4. No other changes has been announced until now.

The latest season of Documentary Now! premiered in February 2019 and ended on March 2019. Its been a long time and the makers have already confirmed that the fourth season will premiere in 2022, although a specific date is yet to be announced.

The new season might consist of seven episodes like the first three seasons. The series is produced by Broadway Video and the theme music is composed by Josh Moshier.
