Netflix to stream Avatar: The Last Airbender from May 15

The much-beloved Nickelodeon hit show Avatar: The Last Airbender is going to be available for streaming in the US! Netflix has confirmed that the show will be available from May 15, 2020, on the platform. This will definitely serve as nostalgia for fans who grew up watching it. It also provides an opportunity for those who haven’t watched the award-winning show yet to do so.

The legacy of Avatar: The Last Airbender

This is an American fantasy animated show which was heavily inspired by the Japanese anime. It was first aired on Nickelodeon in 2005 and went on for three seasons. The immensely popular show ended in July 2008, much to the fans’ dismay. It is set in a universe that resembles some regions of Asia to an extent. This show managed to gain popularity all around the world. 

The protagonist Aang is the last of the Avatars (a group of people with air bending abilities) and the series follows his adventures. He attempts to master the other elements – earth, fire and water, He also ventures to stop the Fire-Nation from taking over the world. Themes such as genocide, free-choice, and totalitarianism, can be seen here. The franchise grew to be very successful, with a sequel show as well as a comic series. It is also one of the few shows to have a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The entire three seasons of the show will be available for binge-watching on the streaming giant Netflix. During the dark times of the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, a dose of nostalgia can be exactly what one needs. Unfortunately, the animated sequel, The Legend of Korra, is not available for viewing on a streaming platform yet. However, Netflix is working on a live-action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender and this serves as more good news for fans around the world!
