This team included the producers of the film, James L. Brooks, Matt Groening, Al Jean, and Mike Scully, and seven other writers, namely Ian Maxtone-Graham, George Meyer, David Mirkin, Mike Reiss, Matt Selman, John Swartzwelder, and Jon Vitti.
A sequel to The Simpsons Movie was reported to be in development in August 2018.
The Simpsons Movie 2: What we know so far
News of a sequel to the film first broke out in 2014. One of the producers of the film, James Brooks stated that he had been asked by Fox to develop a sequel to the film. However, as he stated, it was not possible at the time, with the team behind the first film being busy with other things.
In July 2017, director David Silverman and producer Al Jean said that a sequel to The Simpsons Movie was in the early stages of development. They attributed the long delay in the sequel to the toll the production of the first film took on the entire staff. After all, it was quite a big film.
The sequel was officially confirmed to be in development in August 2018. Producer Al Jean insisted that the film was still in the very, very early stages of development. He had this to say regarding the matter-
“We would love to do one for Disney but it’s not like it’s happening next week or next year.”
Al Jean also confirmed that the second film will not be a direct sequel to The Simpsons Movie. It will be a standalone film. So far, there has been no announcement of a release date for the film. As per the IMDb page of the film, The Simpsons Movie 2 is slated to release in 2021. That information is susceptible to change, depending on the production of the film.
