We’re the Millers, the 2013 road trip comedy film about a pretend-family trying to smuggle marijuana across the Mexico-USA border was a surprise hit. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film grossed $270 million at the box office; nearly seven times that of its production budget of $37 million. The film starred Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Will Poulter and Emma Roberts as the four pretending members of the Millers family. Nick Offerman played the role of DEA agent Don Fitzgerald, with Kathryn Hahn and Molly Quinn playing the role of his wife and daughter, Edie and Melissa Fitzgerald, respectively. Ed Helms also starred in the film as one of the villains, Brad Gurdlinger. It was him who had put up David (Sudeikis) to the task of smuggling drugs across the border. The film was directed by Rawson M. Thurber, and produced by New Line Cinema.

In 2014, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema announced a sequel to the film.
We’re the Millers 2- What we know so far
The sequel was announced in February, 2014. Adam Sztykiel, of Made of Honor and Due Date fame, was hired to write the script. The title of the sequel was revealed to be We’re Still the Millers. Since the announcement, updates about the sequel have been few.
The ending of We’re the Millers left the story quite open for a sequel. David, in exchange for his testimony against Gurdlinger (Helms) and Chacon (Tomer Sisley), must enter the witness protection program. Along with him, Rose (Aniston), Kenny (Poulter), and Casey (Roberts), because of being witnesses, are also under the same program. The Millers are shown living together in a suburban house. The story could pick up in the sequel from where it was left off; the Millers now trying to blend into their new life as a suburb family, or with old foes returning, to extract their revenge on the Millers.

There is plenty of ground that can be covered in the sequel. Even though there have been very few updates about the sequel, the IMDb page of the sequel still lists it as being “in-production”. So hope still remains that a sequel to We’re the Millers will see the light of day.
