Uncle Frank: Plot and Cast
It is the early 1970s and Frank Bledsoe is a closeted gay man, who teaches literature at New York University and never quite got over his self hatred. His niece Beth Bledsoe, sees that he stands out within their conservative family and really admires her sophisticated uncle.
She is a freshman at New York University and feels excited to be in a big city after being sheltered her whole life. Like her uncle, she, too, feels like a black sheep within their conservative and stoutly Christian family. However, she doesn’t know about her uncle’s sexuality. Or that he has been dating his roommate Wally for the past ten years.
Frank and Beth go back for Frank’s narrow-minded father’s funeral and he knows that some of his secrets may have to come out eventually. Frank is also a recovering alcoholic, so that does add more issues into the mix.
Paul Bettany plays Frank Bledsoe while Sophia Lilis plays Beth Bledsoe. Peter Macdissi plays Walid ‘Wally’ Naseem.
