Only1Tipy on the current dynamics of Hip-Hop music and new album ‘Free Slave’ !

Hip-Hop as a genre has emerged as a crucial part of today’s music culture. It is the voice of the suppressed struggles and a way of expressing the reality of lives, especially of the Black and Latino youth. Their art reflected the neighborhoods around them, and of the wider social circumstances in which they find themselves. It is more than music and is full of vibrant culture. Despite all the controversies around the genre, it still has got its healing power. And the magic of this art was soon discovered by the American Hip-Hop recording artist and songwriter, Trevell Franklin, a.k.a Only1Tipy.

Only1Tipy, best known for being signed to reformed kingpin Freeway Rick Ross, now CEO of entertainment label, Freeway Music Group, initially gained worldwide recognition with his hit single Dream Big, a song beautifully portraying his inner feelings. Fans tapped their feet and nodded their heads to the song. His talent and deep love for music spawned a new avenue to express himself by writing for other artists and has also proven that his writing abilities match his lyrical talents and can reach beyond the scopes of Hip-Hop. Back in January 2008, Tipy teamed up with Infrared Entertainment for further artist development. This presented Tipy the opportunity to work alongside great acts such as Quentin Miller, T’Melle, and R&B group One Chance.

So, what is his source of inspiration? The people around him, who struggle day in and day out along with his own experiences while growing up, which have influenced his songs to many extents. But he mainly draws his everyday motivation and good vibes from his daughter and believes that one day she would be carrying his legacy forward and contribute positive energy into the world.

His achievement index goes long, starting with collaborating with some of today’s powerhouse producers such as TJ Freeway, X Beatz, 808 Mafia, to AT Alien, Dreek Da Man (Pushing Keys), Synesthetic Nation, Troy Murray, DJ Pain 1, Freebandz and many more.  Adding more to the list, Tipy has released 5 mixtapes (Trading War Stories, No Radio, Robot Not Here, Proof of Purchase, and his latest project Sacrifice) and 3 albums (No Struggle No Progress, Love Chronicles, and From the City Bus to the Tour Bus) and one ep (Do Not Resuscitate).

When asked about the present status of Hip-Hop in the music industry, his reply clearly states the fact of how much he is woke about the current dynamics.

“The landscape of hip hop has definitely changed in recent years. I love the fact a lot of artists are able to be their own boss and gain their own fan base without being screwed by a label. I do like a lot of music I’ve been hearing. There are a lot of solid artists out here still. But there has always been BS music/artist out here in hip hop in every generation. It’s just before there was more of a balance.”

When the whole world has been going crazy over the pandemic, Tipy managed to keep us sane, with the drop of his new album, Free Slave, such a paradoxical name and yet relevant with the current situation in America. The 5 songs are a perfect amalgamation of soulful, upbeat, emotional and relatable music.

One should not dare to think Tipy as a small, emerging artist, but rather a big one who is counting on minutes to reach the top global charts. He has received media attention to include being featured on MTV.com and Billboard.com, as well as many other media outlets, and moved to ATL to join IBNX Radio as a Radio Personality.

The big change came to him when a big name, Nipsey Hussle DJ, DJ Vip noticed him. This famous DJ was interested in the music style and movement that this rapper has. From this interest, it grows into a team that successfully created a project. They release a single, entitled Down and Dirty. This single was released under the All Money In label, a record label owned by Nipsey Hussle.

Ending with a small of advice from Only1Tipy: Never give up and never quit. Always keep the beloved(s) around you. No doubt, there is only one Tipy.
