Suicide Squad 2: Cast, Release Date and more updates!

Suicide Squad was the third installment in the DC Extended Universe, after Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). The film was based on the DC Comics supervillain team of the same name. The film had an ensemble cast of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Cara Delevingne, to name a few, and was directed by David Ayer. Despite that, the film received mostly negative reviews for its weak plot and direction. The film still managed to gross $746 million worldwide, and also won an Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 89th Academy Awards.

Cast of Suicide Squad 2

Suicide Squad 2 will be marketed as The Suicide Squad. David Ayer was earlier supposed to direct the sequel, but he dropped out in 2017. The sequel will be directed by James Gunn, who has also directed the films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1 and Vol.2, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Margot Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley Quinn. The Suicide Squad will also see other cast members return to their respective roles from the first film. These include Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag and Jai Courtney as George “Digger” Harkness/Captain Boomerang. Will Smith won’t be returning to his character as Floyd Lawton/Deadshot, due to scheduling conflicts; although James Gunn and Warner Bros. haven’t ruled a possibility of his return.

New cast members of The Suicide Squad include David Dastmalchian as Abner Krill/Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher and Steve Agee as the voice of King Shark. Additionally, Idris Elba, John Cena, Storm Reid, Flula Borg, Nathan Fillion, Peter Capaldi, Pete Davidson, Alice Braga, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, Taika Waititi, Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Juan Diego Botto, Tinashe Kajese, Julio Ruiz, and Jennifer Holland have been cast in undisclosed roles.

Release Date of The Suicide Squad

Principal photography for the film began in September 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. From there it moved to Panama for a month. The filming of The Suicide Squad ended in February, 2020. Warner Bros. had announced the release date of the film in January 2019. The Suicide Squad will release in the United States on August 6, 2021.
