The New Legends of Monkey is an Australian-New Zealand Netflix fantasy show that was first released on 28 January 2018 in Australia and 28 April 2018 on Netflix. The second season came out on August 7, 2020. It follows the story of a new monk and dabbles in mythology and the world of demons to seek scrolls of wisdom.

The New Legends of Monkey: Plot

The New Legends of Monkey is based on Monkey, a late twentieth century Japanese TV drama called Saiyūki, and has a cult following all over the world. It is also based on the 16th century Chinese novel Journey To The West. The new show follows the story of Tripitaka (played by Luciane Buchanan), the new monk who tried to undertake a quest to bring back the Monkey King (played by Chai Hansen), commonly referred to only as Monkey. He had been captured and imprisoned five centuries ago by his enemies and had stolen scrolls of ancient wisdom, which Tripitaka seeks to recover, and have been hidden somewhere on earth. The scholar who sends Tripitaka on this journey is her adoptive father and is killed by a demon before she begins the journey to find the lost scrolls. She joins the gods Pigsy (played by Josh Thomson) and Sandy (played by Emilie Cocquerel) to find the seven scrolls that have been long desired by the world. In Season 2, they managed to find a real scroll and a fake one but battle the demon Hagfish, who is killed by his own creation, the Shadow Monkey.

The New Legends of Monkey: Season 3 Release and Details

Although production has currently halted and the release date for season 3 is unexpected, we expect The New Legends of Monkey Season 3 to be released sometime in 2021 or 2022. Netflix has not released any announcements but be sure that we will be eagerly waiting to watch the next season.
