Gameplay
Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue is a romantic novel where the player takes on the part of Masaya Hinata. Much of the gameplay is focused on reading the narration and discussion about the plot. The text in the game is surrounded by character sprites, over background images, showing whom Masaya is referring to.
In the title, at some points in the plot, the player experiences CG artwork that takes the place of the background art and character sprites. The game follows a branching storyline with several endings, and the storyline can advance in a different direction based on the decisions that the player makes throughout the game.
There are four major storylines that the player can witness, one for each heroine. The player is given several choices to pick from in the match, and the progression of the text pauses at certain points before they make a decision. Some decisions will lead to a premature end to the game which provides an alternate end to the story.
The player will have to repeat the game several times and show all of the storylines in their entirety and make different options and shift the storyline to an alternative direction. In playing scenes are showing Masaya with erotic CGs.
