Batman Forever which released in 1995 has been confirmed to be released again with extended directors. The movie which revolves around Batman, who is a vigilante in the city of Gotham. The story is the sequel to the movie released in 1992 and are inspired by the DC comics based on Batman’s adventures and fight against evil.
The movie describes the story of Batman trying to stop two villains Two-Faced and Riddler who have threatened the sovereignty of Gotham. The two villains were working on the propaganda to infiltrate the minds of the citizens of Gotham. They wanted to use the information, whether confidential or not that could be extracted from the minds of the citizens.
The story also dives into the personal life of Brue Wayne, that is Batman itself. This movie like every other Batman movie gives insight about the ongoing projects in Wayne Enterprises and how Harvey Dent is on the mission to sabotage Batman’s efforts and reputation. Aside from this, Batman Forever introduces a new character called Dr Chase Meridian, a psychologist who is infatuated by Batman. Their encounter is nothing short of mysterious and romantic.
Chase throughout the movie is shown to be enamoured by Bruce’s charms and in turn, casts a spell on him. The movie also introduces the character of Robin, who later on in the movie becomes Batman’s sidekick. Together in the movie, Batman and Robin work side by side to avenge the death of Robins parents. The death of Robins parents was not a matter of fate or accidental but caused by Two-Face itself.
This movie was a delight for all the DC comic fans as it had the best of the bast, the best of the cinematography at that time and an amazing, compelling and super entertaining script. The movie had the perfect blend of action, romance, suspense and superhero touch to it. The best thing about this movie like every other Batman movie is the characterisation of Batman’s personality and aura.
This movie’s cast was terrific and here’s the list of the actors:
- Val Kilmer as Bruce Wayne / Batman
- Tommy Lee Jones as Harvey Dent / Two-Face
- Jim Carrey as Edward Nygma / The Riddler
- Nicole Kidman as Dr Chase Meridian
- Chris O’Donnell as Dick Grayson / Robin
- Michael Gough as Alfred Pennyworth
This movie did well for itself because it introduced new characters and had terrific actors play those roles. Jim Carrey, who usually goes for comic roles was praised for playing a villain in this movie. Nicole Kidman gained fame and more recognition after doing the role of Chase Meridian.
The movie’s director Joel Schumacher passed away in June 2020 and it is speculated by fans that there exists a special cut called the “Schumacher Cut” which apparently is a much darker and riveting version of the movie. It is said that every scene and every character has a much more serious tone to them. This cut also has a different take on Bruce’s psychological issues and shows his struggles which a which raw framework which is anticipated to be dark for certain age groups.
This cut was not released by Warner Brother studios because it was assumed that it may offend people of sensitive communities or that there will be a backlash that the director and the movie would have to face. However, after the director’s death, this 40-minute long cut version will be added to the original version. This extended cut would be released soon under the rights of Warner Brothers studios.
