Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice came out in 1988 and became an instant hit. It won a lot of awards, including an Academy Award for Best Makeup. Beetlejuice also inspired an animated television series and a musical too. Now, after more than thirty years after the release of the horror-comedy, there is news of a sequel in the making, and it has got fans of the famous comical ghost pretty excited.
What was Beetlejuice about?
Beetlejuice was a movie about the Maitlands, a recently deceased couple, who take the help of an obnoxious yet funny ghost Betelguese (pronounced and spelled as “Beetlejuice” in the film)to scare away the new inhabitants of their home. The couple had to spend a hundred and twenty-five years in their own house before they could get into the Netherworld and spend their afterlife together. The problem arises when they realize that after their death, their house was sold to another family, the Deetzes.
After numerous failed attempts to scare away the Deetzes, the Maitlands seek the help of the infamous Beetlejuice. As Beetlejuice offends the Maitlands on their first-ever meeting, they reconsider their decision and try to scare away the Deetzes themselves. That clearly doesn’t work and as Beetlejuice makes an entry into the story, mayhem ensues. This continues until the Deetzes and the Maitland couple decide to live in the house together, in harmony. The ending of the movie shows Beetlejuice in the waiting room of the afterlife, while the Deetzes learn how to co-exist with ghosts.
Beetlejuice 2: What we know so far
A sequel to this classic film was always what the fans wanted, and in 2014, Michael Keaton, who played the famous Beetlejuice, said that if he was to do a sequel, it would only be Beetlejuice 2. Warner Bros. has also been quiet about revealing any details related to the sequel. Mike Vukadinovich, famous from the shows Runaways and Kidding, might be working on a script for the sequel. If there is a sequel, Winona Ryder will possibly be back for her role as a grownup Lydia Deetz, embarking on a supernatural adventure of her own.
As of now, there is no official release date for Beetlejuice 2. But until that happens, fans of the famous horror comedy can watch this fan-made trailer, to quench their curiosities about the much-wanted sequel.
