Chicken Run 2: Release Date, Cast and more Updates!

Published

on

When Chicken Run released in 2000, nobody would’ve thought that it would go on to become the highest-grossing stop motion animated film in history. The film was produced by British studios Aardman Animations in a partnership with Universal Pictures. It went on to gross $224 million worldwide, on a budget of $45 million. The first film was produced and directed by duo Peter Lord and Nick Park. A sequel to the film was announced in April 2018, eighteen years after the first film came out.

Cast and Plot details of Chicken Run 2

Sam Fell will be directing the sequel. The directors of the first film Peter Lord and Nick Park will be taking on production roles for the second film. The writers of the first film, Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell will also be coming back for the sequel.

As for the voice actors, Mel Gibson will not be returning to voice the character of Rocky, Aardman announced, after allegations against him for antisemitic remarks were made by actress Winona Ryder. Julia Sawalha is also not expected to return as the voice behind the character Ginger. She had said in a statement that perhaps she was too old to now voice that character. She was also quoted as saying,

“I have officially been plucked, stuffed & roasted.”

Other cast details of Chicken Run 2 are still not out yet.

Regarding the plot details of the sequel, this is what the synopsis of the sequel reads: “Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s Farm, Ginger has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. “But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in!”

Release Date of Chicken Run 2

After the sequel was announced in 2018, Netflix, on the twentieth anniversary of the first film, 23 June 2020, announced that they had acquired the rights to the sequel. Aardman Productions will be reuniting with French Studio Pathé and StudioCanal for the production of the sequel.

With Netflix having acquired the rights to the sequel, principal photography for the film is expected to begin in 2021. The film will release on Netflix globally.
