Deadpool 3 is arguably one of the most awaited superhero films that fans want. The merc-with-a-mouth, played by Ryan Reynolds, has had two films, both of them critical and commercial successes individually. Both Deadpool films brought in about $800 million each. However, ever since Disney’s acquisition of Fox was completed in March 2019, the future has looked bleak for the third Deadpool film. Marvel Studios face the issue of bringing in an R-rated superhero into their PG-13 universe, without losing any of its success and comedic element. There has been news of a third movie in development at Marvel Studios, but how and when that happens remains to be seen.
Deadpool 3- What we know so far
There was no announcement of Deadpool 3 by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige at the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019. Elaborate plans were announced for Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Deadpool 3 seems to have missed a slot in those announcements. However, Ryan Reynolds did confirm in December 2019 that a third Deadpool film was in development over at Marvel Studios, but then in May 2020 said that he didn’t really know when we’ll be able to see it.
“It’s just all so new with it being over at Marvel now, and, you know, figuring out the ins and outs as much as I can, from where I sit. We’ll see.”
Release Date of Deadpool 3
The writers of Deadpool 2 Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have themselves admitted to the fact that they’re trying to find the right idea for the third film.
“I think once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is, we’ll be off to the races.”
If and when the film does happen, it does not seem like it will be part of Phase Four of the MCU. So we can expect that Deadpool 3 will happen only after 2022. Ryan Reynolds did tease the fans with a “phase 5” hint for the third Deadpool film in an Instagram post back in July 2019.
