Misbehaviour: Cast and Plot
Misbehaviour is based on the controversy surrounding the Miss World 1970. Although the fan-favorite in the competition was Miss Sweden, Miss Grenada was crowned Miss World. This stirred protests and accusations because Miss Grenada was Jennifer Hosten, a Black woman.
What made the event even more interesting, was the interruption by the Women’s Liberation Army. They had then recently formed and were made popular by their appearance on the show. Miss World had over 100 million viewers and many think that might have affected the final judgment.
The movie is a comedy with Greg Kinnear playing the role of comedian Bob Hope, who was the host of the 1970 Miss World. Keira Knightley plays Sally Alexander, a feminist who organized rallies for the Women’s Liberation Army.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays the role of Jennifer Hosten, the winner of the contest from Grenada. Jessie Buckley plays Jo Robinson, while Keeley Hawes plays Julia Morley, one of the organizers of the contest. Suki Waterhouse plays the Miss United States whereas Clara Rosager plays Miss Sweden, the almost winner and fan favorite.
Other cast members include Lesley Manville, Rhys Ifans, and John Sackville. The movie works well as a funny British comedy and is highly enjoyable to watch!
