Are you ready for some more adventures into the world of Stephen King? After the success of It comes another adaptation of The Stand. While this book has been adapted into a comic as well as a miniseries in the 90s, director Josh Boone created a newer version of the miniseries for the entertainment of (or shall I say, to scare) today’s audience. This dark fantasy story is a classic among King’s literary fans. Where and when is it going to be released? What is the miniseries all about? Well, read more to find out!
The Stand: Plot and Cast
Why, you may ask, is the series being recreated when there is already a 90s version in place? Well, the plot of the story is all about a post-apocalyptic world that barely survived an influenza. Yes, you heard me right. Freakishly similar to our current situation, isn’t it? What’s more, the influenza was to be used as a biological weapon and the scientists discovered it was 99.4% fatal.
When escaping the laboratory, one security guard manages to spread it all around the world and most of the population dies within a month. The protagonist, Stu Redman, is one of the men immune to the virus and is taken to a facility to find a cure. While escaping the facility, he meets Frannie Goldsmith and falls in love with her. But sociopathic Harold Lauder tries to threaten what little happiness they have.
While they go around trying to survive, they encounter Mother Abagail, who dreams of the same terrifying man they all dream of: “The Dark Man” or Randall Flagg. This coalition of sci-fi dystopia and fantastical horror gives the story a terrifying essence that makes it one of the greatest horror stories ever told.
James Marsden plays Stu Redman, Odessa Young plays Frannie Goldsmith, Amber Heard plays Nadine Cross, Owen Teague plays Harold Lauder and Greg Kinnear plays Glen Bateman. Whoopi Goldberg plays Mother Abagail while Alexander Skarsgard plays Randall Flagg.
The Stand: Release Date and Trailer
