Developed by Surgent Studios, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is an upcoming Metroidvania video game that is published by Electronic Arts under its EA Originals label. The game was heavily inspired by Bantu culture and Salim’s own experience with tribal groups while filming Raised by Wolves in South Africa.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau Gameplay

Developers of Tales of Kenzera: Zau have hardly disclosed a lot of details about the gameplay. The gameplay trailer has already came out and it is going to feature a lot of action and adventure for all the gamers around the world. The main character’s name would be Zau and he would be traveling across the lands of Kenzera.

Actor Abubakar Salim will be a narrator for the game and the trailer features the Sun and Moon masks alongside their powers. Each mask has a unique power that can be further updated for more skills which will contribute in taking down enemies. The game is also inspired by the personal life of Abubakar who lost his father a long time ago.

The game would be a medium to pay tribute to Abubakar’s father and it will be released in single player mode. It will additionally reveal how resilience can be obtained through greatness and how one can find hope and courage after losing someone.

The game was officially announced by Salim at The Game Awards in December 2023. The developers have confirmed that Tales of Kenzera: Zau will be released on April 23, 2024. The game is scheduled to be released for Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S.
