The Conjuring 3: Latest updates about third sequel ‘The Devil Made Me Do It’

It has been four years since the release of James Wan’s globally hit horror-thriller The Conjuring 2. In the meantime Wan has also been the man behind several other movies set in the universe of this franchise including The Nun, three Annabelle films and The Curse of La Llorona. The franchise is returning this year with the third direct sequel at the right time when the fans were desperately expecting one. Notably, The Conjuring Universe has become the most successful active horror franchise in the recent years. Moreover, this will be the first project in the direct sequel which isn’t directed by James Wan. Here are some latest updates on the film.

Release Date

The first Conjuring was released in 2013. In 2014 came Annabelle. Every sequel or spin-off movie from The Conjuring Universe created Wan was out almost a gap of a year. The Conjuring 2 was out in 2016 and Conjuring 3 is returning in 2020. Directed by Michael Chaves, The Conjuring: ‘The Devil Made Me Do It’ is ideally scheduled to haunt the USA theatres on September 11, hoping the pandemic crisis gets resolved by then. Otherwise, Warner Bros will have to make a delay in the launch.

Cast

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will return as the paranormal investigator couple Lorraine and Ed Warren. We will also see Megan Ashley Brown as young Lorraine, Mitchell Hoog as young Ed, Ruairi O’Connor as Arne Cheyenne Johnson, Sterling Jerins as Judy Warren, Steve Coulter as Father Gordon, Sarah Catering Hook as Debbie Glatzel, Charlene Amoia as Judy Glatzel, Shannon Kook as Drew Thomas and Julian Hilliard as David Glatzel.

Plot

The third sequel will be walking in different waters than the first two films where the Warren duo investigated real-life paranormal events. This one is going to focus on the actual Warren case files where a guy who is undergoing a trial for murder. That was probably the USA’s first case where the accused claimed to be under possession while committing the crime. In this bizarre case, Johnson claimed that he was forced to kill his landlord because of a demon residing in the body of his 11-year-old neighbor David Glatzel. The Conjuring 3 will take a close look at the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson. The accuracy of the synchronization of the film with the original case will be known after its anticipated release in September.

Vera Farmiga gave some insight into The Conjuring 3 in an interview with Entertainment Weekly when Annabelle Comes Home was in the production phase. “Conjuring 3 is coming, and it will be a doozy,” said Farmiga. “It will be big. So for me, visiting these characters [in Annabelle Comes Home], it’s like practicing your scales and doing a few arpeggios before having to dive deep into the next one. Because the next one is massive.”
