The Right Stuff: Release Date, Upcoming Season and More!

The Right Stuff is an upcoming drama TV series that is set to be released on Disney+ on October 9, 2020. It is based on Tom Wolfe’s novel of the same name that was released in 1979. The movie is about the Project Mercury that was launched by NASA, which made being an astronaut a profession in the first place. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? We definitely can’t wait for the TV show! The Right Stuff: Plot and Cast

The movie focuses on the Mercury Seven, who were the seven pilots under the Project Mercury program selected to become astronauts and go to space. Project Mercury was the first space flight program in the United States. The object was to be the first to put a man in space; however, the Soviet Union soon became the first country to do that.

As the United States scrambled to beat the Soviet Union in terms of space exploration, it created the Mercury 7 to put more men into space. Alan Shepard, John Glenn, Gordon Cooper, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Scott Carpenter and Deke Slayton became the original Mercury 7 and thus, the first astronauts.

All of the members of Mercury 7 flew in space between the years 1961 to 1963. A lot of men had signed up for this program, but what made these seven men special was their grit and obsession with bringing honor to their homeland and families. Alan Shepard eventually became the first man to enter space from the United States.

Jake McDorman plays Alan Shepard, Patrick J. Adams plays John Glenn and Colin O’Donaghue plays Gordon Cooper. Michael Trotter plays Gus Grissom, Aaron Statton plays Wally Schirra and James Lafferty plays Scott Carpenter. Finally, Micah Stock plays Deke Slayton.
