Created by Team Kanohi, Bionicle: Masks of Power is an upcoming fan-made action role-playing video game that is based on The Lego Group’s Bionicle line of constructible action figures, and will follow the Toa’s quest for the Kanohi masks.

Bionicle: Masks of Power Gameplay

The visuals of the game are said to be a combination of accurate character and Rahi designs with real environments and scenery. Gray Fore of Screen Rant stated that the game’s visuals are almost similar to the Mata Nui Online Game. The game will be set in an open world and has a lot of elements and puzzles. Powers of the Kanohi helps to cover the Toa collect and it also helps in the overworld movements. Project director ASCII stated that the main inspiration for the game is Masks of Power and Nier: Automata and Monster Hunter, which works in the enhancement of the combat and enemy look. According to project creator Jordan Willis, Horizon: Zero Dawn is also another inspiration behind the game and that it is a Bionicle without the trademark. The game is made on Unreal Engine. The basic premise will be about Toa and their aim to accumulate all the Kanohi masks. It has elements that are taken from the original Bionicle canon along with revisions for those portions that won’t lead to a good game along with certain gaps in the plot.

Bionicle: Masks of Power Release Date

The game entered development a long time ago with a small team. The team has only 38 volunteers and the work on the game started by October 2021. Members of this team were mostly international and there were working on different time zones. Team Kanohi has previously released a game titled Masks of Power: Legacy and project director ASCII decided to refer to it as a prototype for Masks of Power. The game has not been sanctioned by Lego until now and Team Kanohi was also provided a list of rules and guidelines by the ASCII that had to be followed compulsorily while presenting the game. There were other guidelines too where Lego takes a different kind of approach towards fun games. A demo for the game is set for release on Steam in early 2024. But the official release date of Bionicle: Masks of Power is yet to be confirmed.
