The Scottish television crime drama Shetland is getting ready for its sixth season and the fans are already hyped about. It is one of the most anticipated non-English series ever. Made by ITV Studios for the BBC and broadcasted on BBC One, Shetland is based on the novels of Ann Cleeves; the series was brought to screen by David Kane, who has remained a principal writer throughout the series. It is surprising that the non-English shows are getting more popularity for its enigmatic storyline and the manifestation of the sleek cultural roots. So let’s have a recap of what happened in the previous seasons so that we can pave a passageway to season 6.
What happened in the last seasons?
The mystery starts with the murder of elderly Shetlander Mima Wilson on the archaeological site on the grounds of her croft. Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez and his team investigate and find that somehow the murder is linked to the Shetland bus, followed by several other homicides, like that of a teenage girl whose body was found on a secluded beach or the discovery of seven-year-old Catriona’s body after almost two decades. Each episode introduces us to new murder cases and one will be left perplexed and will definitely feel dizzy.
When can we expect the new season?
We cannot expect the release of the sixth season as of yet due to the outbreak of the virus but can only anticipate it to be available by the end of this year and the following seasons in the years to come. Seasons 6 and 7 will be written and created by David Kane and accompanied by Paul Logue. Season 6 is expected to feature six hour-long episodes. There is no update about the plot yet. Louise Say will be the producer of both seasons. The series is set with the backdrop with the vista of the Scottish scape which gives a soothing touch to the horrendous incidents.
